Hi...I know much about EXPENSIVE sound..but I want CHEAP. :P You see..at the school I attend..which is a secondary school in the UK and a high school in America (I was born in the UK, but I live in America, go figure)...and my friend and I plan to start up a film club for next years sessions..and we are beginning to plan everything out...and I plan to teach some basic film classes but what I'm stuck on at the moment is sound. How to get fairly good sound quality without bying a boom. And I forget how much boom's cost but I think they may be fairly out of our price range. Many thanks!

If you're shooting film and cutting on, tape and can't get a Nagra or a DAT. Get a Hi-8 camera. Leave the lens cap on, Get a good pair of headphones, connect another mic to the camera and use that as your sound recorder. Worked for me!

If you are gettin new equipment, and decide to go digital, Sony make a hell of a mic for the digital camera. I have been using it and it sounds incredible.

A good way to get good cheap sound it to record every thing on minidisk. Here in Canada a minidisk recorder costs about $250 so it should cost less in the US.
